페이스북 하는 이유(Why I Use Facebook)-In Korean & English

페이스북을 시작한 지 어느덧 15년이 되었습니다. 처음에는 몇 명 되지 않았지만, 지금은 팔로워가 5,000명을 넘고 그중 3,000 여명이 ‘친구’로 연결되어 있습니다.

제가 격주로 페이스북에 글을 올리는 이유는 다음과 같습니다.

첫째, 목회 경험을 나누고 싶어서입니다. 휴스턴서울교회 담임목사로 섬긴 20년 동안 2,342명이 예수님을 영접하고 침례를 받았습니다. 또한 가정교회 정착과 확산을 위해 세운 가정교회 사역원을 통해 북미, 한국, 대양주 등 전 세계로 가정교회가 확산되었으며, 10곳이 넘는 선교지에서 현지인 교회가 현지인들을 위해 가정교회 세미나를 개최하고 있을 정도로 발전했습니다. 이 사역을 통해 얻은 지혜를 후배들과 나누고 싶습니다.

둘째, 가정교회를 소개하고 싶습니다. 가정교회 운동은 오늘날 교회를 신약성경에 기록된 교회 모습에 가능하면 가깝게 만드는데 목적이 있습니다. 우리는 이를 ‘신약교회 회복’이라고 부릅니다. 하지만 가정교회에 대해 잘 모르거나 오해하는 분들이 적지 않아, 이런 분들께 가정교회를 알리고 신약교회 회복 운동에 동참하도록 돕고 싶습니다.

셋째, 정치를 성경적 관점에서 바라보도록 돕고 싶습니다. 요즘 정치와 사회가 양극화 되어 크리스천들 조차도 양측에 편향된 주장을 하는 경우가 많습니다. 신앙적인 양심 때문이라 하지만, 실제로는 성경보다 이념에 기초한 경우가 적지 않습니다. 이런 양 극단 사이에서 혼란스러워 하는 성도들에게 성경적 관점으로 현실을 바라보고 바른 판단을 내리도록 돕고 싶습니다. 정치에 관한 글을 올리면 양쪽 모두에게 비난 받고 ‘친구”를 끊는 사람들도 생기지만, 도움이 되었다는 분들이 훨씬 많아 보람을 느낍니다.

넷째, 한국어가 서툰 자녀와 손주들과 소통하고 싶습니다. 저의 자녀들과 손주들은 모두 미국에서 태어나 한국어에 익숙하지 않습니다. 이들에게 제 생각과 근황을 전하고 싶어 영어로도 글을 올립니다. 또한 휴스턴서울교회 영어회중과 전 세계 영어권 가정교회 성도들에게도 제 마음을 전하고 싶습니다. 영어권 독자들이 글을 읽고 ‘좋아요’를 눌러 줄 때마다 큰 기쁨을 느낍니다.

It has been over 15 years since I started using Facebook. In the beginning, I had only a handful of “friends,” but now the number has grown to more than 3,000, and I also have over 2,000 followers.

I post an article on Facebook every other week, and I would like to share the reasons.

First, I want to share my ministry experience. During my 20 years as senior pastor of Houston Seoul Church, 2,342 people accepted Jesus and were baptized. Since founding House Church Ministries International, the house church movement has spread throughout the world. In more than 10 mission fields, native-led churches are now hosting house church seminars for churches in their area. I want to share the wisdom gained through these ministries with younger pastors.

Second, I want to introduce house church. The purpose of the house church movement is to restore the church as described in the New Testament. However, many people are either unfamiliar with house churches, or they misunderstand them. I hope to introduce house church ministry properly so more people can join this movement to restore the New Testament church.

Third, I want to help people view current political affairs from a biblical perspective. These days, Christians are becoming sharply polarized to the left and right. Both sides claim to act out of spiritual conviction, yet much of their argument is rooted more in ideology than in Scripture. I want to help believers who may feel confused between these extreme perspectives to see the world through a biblical lens and make sound judgments. When I post about politics, I sometimes face criticism from both sides and even get unfriended But many also say they are helped by it, and that makes it worth my while.

Fourth, I want to communicate with my children and grandchildren, who are not fluent in Korean. They were all born in the United States, so their Korean is limited. I want to share my thoughts and updates with them. For this reason, I post an English version of every article. When English-speaking house church members, especially from New Life Fellowship (the English congregation of Houston Seoul Church),read my writing and click “like,” it gives me great joy.
